You can boat directly from Anchorage on Cook Inlet, or choose separate inland outings on Sand Lake and Eklutna Lake. The Ship Creek small craft ramp and float reach Cook Inlet, but NOAA says they dry at low water and recommends local knowledge, so this is the open water choice. Sand Lake is a neighborhood boating and fishing lake with public dock access at Chitose Park. Eklutna Lake is a hand carry option for canoes, kayaks and electric motor boats; state parks notes that strong afternoon winds can develop. These waterways do not connect.

From Anchorage, boaters head to Eklutna Lake for Kokanee Cabin, Yuditna Cabin, Bold Airstrip Campground and Kanchee Campground. Kokanee has no road or trail access and is reached by kayak or canoe in summer; Yuditna sits at the mouth of Yuditnu Creek and can be reached by boats carried to the water. Bold Airstrip and Kanchee offer remote campground stops with latrines, picnic tables and fire rings.
