Marshland Equipment Rental LLC

Rentals from Marshland Equipment Rental LLC include life jackets, safety equipment, fuel, cooler storage, fishing gear, a bimini top, a sunshade, a Bluetooth stereo and GPS navigation. Amenities vary by boat and by season, so confirm what comes with the boat you book.

For a Louisiana boat rental, all renters must be at least 18. Age 10 is the earliest a person can receive boater education certification and operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower without the accompaniment exception. Under R.S. 34:851.36, anyone born after January 1, 1984, needs an approved course or must be accompanied by someone over 18 who completed the course, if required. That exception does not apply to personal watercraft, whose operators must be at least 16 and course-certified if born after that date. The rental operator may set a higher minimum, so confirm it when booking.

Louisiana requires boater education rather than a boating license: anyone born after January 1, 1984 must carry proof of an LDWF approved course to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower or a personal watercraft. A motorboat operator may instead be accompanied by someone over 18 who has completed the course if required, but that exception does not apply to personal watercraft. Personal watercraft operators must be at least 16; rental operators must be at least 18, and students cannot be certified before age 10.

U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains are exempt. Eligible renters from a state approved livery may watch the LDWF safety video for a 48 hour exemption. Course graduates receive a temporary certificate while proof is processed.

For the widest choice of boating settings, start with Lake Pontchartrain, Toledo Bend Reservoir, Vermilion Bay, the Red River, and Lake Palourde. Lake Pontchartrain gives the New Orleans and Northshore area broad open water, while Toledo Bend on the Texas border is a very large freshwater reservoir. Along the Acadiana coast, Vermilion Bay offers bays, barrier islands, and coastal marsh near Cypremort Point.

For a river setting, the Red River runs through northwestern Louisiana, including the Natchitoches area. Near Morgan City, Lake Palourde connects with neighboring lakes and waterways, providing an example of south Louisiana’s linked lake systems.

Popular Louisiana boating destinations include Lake Pontchartrain, known for kayaking and fishing; Toledo Bend Reservoir, a major bass fishing lake with state park launches and boat rentals; Lake Charles and surrounding Calcasieu Parish, which offer both freshwater and saltwater outings; Venice, a gateway to inshore marshes and offshore Gulf fishing where the Mississippi River meets the Gulf; and Grand Isle, a barrier island popular for paddling, beach access and year round saltwater fishing.
